Measures to Raise Qualification in Intercultural Care for the Elderly

The need for nursing care out of illness and age demands a number of competencies of everyone involved. How capable is the elder person to self-determine, how far does this self- determination have to be controlled because of illness and organizational reasons? These decisions are the everyday work of nursing personnel and are important especially when persons with a migration background need care. Language problems, unfamiliar habits or incomprehensible behavior of relatives can complicate their work.

This measure, in collaboration with the Red Cross Kusel (DRK-Kreisverband Kusel e.V.), qualifies nurses, offers information about the needs of immigrants, especially for elder persons. Examples and exercises help to empathise with the persons in need of nursing care.
